The popular resale platform has updated its measurement guidelines for women's and children's garments but did not contact all users about the change. Online Platforms Response Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media stating that platform listings now display an altered size classification versus the original listing due to the recalibration. The platform stated the revised method more closely matches comparable marketplaces. The platform has recommended to examine their items and update the measurements by hand if necessary, which has left users frustrated. Measurement Approach Modifications Before the change, the measurements included one number and one letter, such as S/8 or M/10. The revised method features a letter and a range such as S/UK 8-10. With some products, the sizing has been recategorised - such as a large size was formerly size 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18. User Stories One content creator, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling". "Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does. Another user, located in Scotland, said garments she listed with size 14 tags were displaying on the service as size 20–22. "If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they're going to be very disappointed," she explained. Manual Updates Another shopper, located in England, explained she became annoyed because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizing for "all her products". "For me this is particularly frustrating, since I have chronic health issues and Vinted sales have been crucial after experiencing income reduction," she said. Service Background The platform boasts over 100 million users, comprising 18 million UK members. It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop. This isn't the first time when a surprising modification within the service has received backlash: last year, the platform withdrew an update regarding delivery choices due to shopper criticism.
